Lenny Bruce

- (1926-66) a US performer of comedy who used rude language and told jokes about subjects that are usually avoided, such as sex, religion and race. He was sent to prison for this in 1961 and two years later was refused permission to enter Britain. He died after taking too much of the drug heroin. His story was told in the film Lenny (1974) with Dustin Hoffman as Bruce.
