'Studs' Terkel

- (1912-2008) a US writer, born Louis Terkel. He is known for his ' oral histories' of Americans in which he recorded conversations with different groups within US society. His books include Hard Times: An Oral History of the Great Depression in America (1970), The Good War: An Oral History of World War II (1986), which won a Pulitzer Prize, and My American Century (1997) which marked the end of his 52 years of broadcasting on radio.
