Arnold Wesker

- (1932-2016) an English writer of plays. He grew up in a left-wing Jewish family in London and many of his plays reflect this background and the problems created by class divisions in Britain. They include Chicken Soup with Barley (1957), Roots (1959), I'm Talking about Jerusalem (1960), Chips with Everything (1962) and Annie Wobbler (1983). He was made a knight in 2006.
