the Spice Girls
/ðə ˈspaɪs ɡɜːlz/
/ðə ˈspaɪs ɡɜːrlz/
- an English pop group consisting of five women. The media often distinguish between them by using a different adjective for each, for example, Sporty Spice and Posh Spice. The group's first five songs, released in 1996 and 1997, were all No 1 hits, including Wannabe, Say You'll Be There and 2 Become 1. Each member of the group has also recorded solo albums. They often appeared in the British media in the 1990s, talking about their philosophy of girl power, the idea that women should have a strong attitude about their identity, support each other and enjoy themselves.
