Lockerbie
/ˈlɒkəbi/
/ˈlɑːkərbi/
- a town in southern Scotland. It became famous in 1988 when a US plane (Pan Am Flight 103) exploded above it, killing all 259 people on board and 11 people on the ground. Authorities in Britain and the US believed the explosion was caused by a bomb placed on the plane by two Libyan men. In January 2001, at the end of their trial, the court decided that one man was guilty and one was not guilty.
