Doctor Who
/ˌdɒktə ˈhuː/
/ˌdɑːktər ˈhuː/
- a BBC television science fiction series made for older children and also popular with many adults. The main character is the Doctor, who travels through time and space. The Doctor has adventures and fights many strange enemies, including the Daleks and the Cybermen. It was shown from 1963 to 1989 and a new series of programmes began in 2005. Many different actors have played the Doctor, who as a so-called Time Lord is able to take on a new body and personality in situations that would have killed a human being. In 2017 it was announced that a woman would play the role of the Doctor for the first time.
