'Lucky' Luciano

- (1897-1962) a US criminal, born in Sicily. He became the head of a powerful criminal organization in New York in the 1920s and probably ordered the murder of his rival, 'Dutch' Schultz in 1935. A year later he was sent to prison and continued to run his illegal activities from prison, but in 1946 he was sent back to Italy.
