- (1908-86) an English cartoonist and writer. His 'pocket cartoons' (= small funny drawings) appeared in the Daily Express newspaper from 1939, and were popular for characters such as the upper-class Lady Maudie Littlehampton. He also wrote books on architecture and did designs for the theatre. He was made a knight in 1975.
