Beverly Sills

- (1929-2007) a former leading US opera singer with a soprano (= highest female) voice. Her first major performance was in 1947 with the Philadelphia Civic Opera. She was later General Director of the New York City Opera (1979-84) and Chairwoman of the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts (1994-2000).
