- (1906-2002) a US writer, director and producer of films, born in Austria. His many successful films, some of which he also wrote or helped to write, include Double Indemnity (1944), The Lost Weekend (1945), Sunset Boulevard, The Seven Year Itch (1955), Some Like It Hot (1959) and The Apartment (1960). He won a total of six Oscars.
