- (1865-1936) king of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (1910-36). He was the son of Edward VII. He became popular with the British people for supporting the British armed forces in the First World War. In 1917 he dropped all his German titles and changed the family name from Saxe-Coburg-Gotha to Windsor.
