- a US rocket used in the 1960s and 1970s to send spacecraft and satellites (= electronic devices that move around the earth) into space. The original Saturn was developed in 1958 by Wernher von Braun, and it had two rockets used in sequence. Saturn 5 had three rockets and carried 12 million US gallons /45.6 million litres of fuel. It was used for the Apollo program to send men to the moon.
