the Fountain of Youth
/ðə ˌfaʊntən əv ˈjuːθ/
/ðə ˌfaʊntn əv ˈjuːθ/
- (in old stories) a spring of water that is believed to give youth to anyone who drinks it. In 1513, the Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de León searched for it in America in an area that is now the state of Florida. The city of Saint Augustine in that state has a 'Fountain of Youth' for tourists which, it is claimed, might have been the one he searched for.
