- (1933-2007) the US evangelist who established the Moral Majority 1979-1989 to try to persuade politicians to follow conservative policies on issues such as abortion and homosexuality. The group worked to elect Ronald Reagan as President. Falwell had a church and national television programme in Lynchburg, Virginia, and started the Liberty Baptist College (now the Liberty University) there in 1971. see also televangelist
