- (1932-98) a US singer and writer of rockabilly songs which combined country music with rock and roll. His first hit, Blue Suede Shoes (1956), was later recorded by Elvis Presley. His songs have also been recorded by country music singers like Johnny Cash and by various pop groups, including the Beatles. He was chosen for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987.
