Spitalfields
/ˈspɪtlfiːldz/
/ˈspɪtlfiːldz/
- a district of east London, east of the City. It used to be famous for its large fruit and vegetable market, which moved to north-east London in 1991. Spitalfields still has Brick Lane, one of London's largest flea markets (= markets selling old clothes, furniture, etc.). Many groups of immigrants have lived there and it is now the centre of one of the largest Bangladeshi communities in Britain.
