John Cheever

- (1912-82) a US author. His books are often about the private problems of families who seem to be successful. They include The Wapshot Chronicle (1957), The Wapshot Scandal (1964) and Falconer (1977). He also wrote short stories, many of which appeared in The New Yorker. Some were collected in The Stories of John Cheever (1978), which received the Pulitzer Prize and other awards.
