- (1906-98) a US tennis player in the 1920s and 1930s who was the best woman player of her time. Her popular name was 'Queen Helen'. She won eight Wimbledon competitions (1927-30, 1932-3, 1935 and 1938), which remained a record for 52 years. Her total of 31 competition victories included the US Open seven times and the French Open four times. She also won a Gold Medal at the 1924 Olympics. Before she was married in 1929, she played as Helen Wills. She was chosen for the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1959.
