- a British charity that has worked to prevent all kinds of cruel treatment of children since 1884. It operates a 24-hour national phone helpline and online service to give help and advice to children and parents, as well as anyone worried about the safety of a child. The NSPCC works closely with social workers, doctors and police officers.
