- (1947-2016) an English pop singer, writer of songs, and actor. He was especially known for combining music and images in new ways, and for the characters that he created. These included Major Tom, in his first hit song Space Oddity (1969), and Ziggy Stardust in songs and performances in the 1970s. Through the character of Ziggy, Bowie created the style known as ' glam rock' or ' glitter rock'. His final performance of his music on stage was in 2006. His final albums were The Next Day (2013) and Blackstar (2016).
