  1. (1893-1918) an English poet who fought in the First World War and whose poems are about the horrors of war and the waste of life it causes. He was killed a week before the end of the war, and his poems were published two years later by his friend Siegfried Sassoon. Six of Owen's poems were set to music in Benjamin Britten's War Requiem (1962). I am not concerned with Poetry. My subject is War and the pity of War. The Poetry is in the pity.Wilfred Owen
