William Halsey

- (1882-1959) a US admiral (= senior navy officer) who won victories in the South Pacific during the Second World War. He commanded the Allied Forces (1942-4) and the US Third Fleet (1944-5) from his ship, the USS Missouri. Halsey's popular name was 'Bull'.
