Edward Kennedy

- (1932-2009) a US Senator from Massachusetts from 1962, informally called Ted or Teddy, who was the younger brother of John F Kennedy and Robert Kennedy. He was a Democrat with liberal views and for many years supported a national health programme. His career was damaged when he had an accident in his car which killed his female passenger. In 1980, he tried but failed to be chosen as the Democrats' candidate for US President.
