Kim Philby

- (1912-88) a British spy (= person employed to find out secret information) who gave British secrets to the Soviet Union. He was a member of a group called the Cambridge spies, and continued as the 'third man' after Guy Burgess and Donald Maclean were discovered. Later, like them, Philby escaped to the USSR and became a Soviet citizen.
