Some of the rock-loving ferns in dry places are known as "resurrection" ferns, reviving after their leaves have turned sere and brown.

Here is a characteristic touch:—  "A woodland walk    A quest of river-grapes, a mocking        thrush,    A wild rose, or rock-loving columbine,    Salve my worst wounds."

Mostly small, rock-loving plants, usually rather chaffy, at least at the base, and growing in tufts.
