The members of the genus Sarcoptes are very minute and are the active source of the itch in the lower animals and man.

Burrowing mites, called Sarcoptes, are extremely pruritic and we are fortunate they are rare in rabbits.

However, Sarcoptes is the better word, which is Greek, meaning “chopped meats.”
