Word deafness, a term often used as synonymous with auditory aphasia, is misleading and should be abandoned.

Besides the motor aphasia, just mentioned, there is another type, called sensory aphasia, or, more precisely, auditory aphasia.

Motor aphasia may result from pressure on the left inferior frontal convolution; auditory aphasia from abscess in the posterior part of the superior temporal convolution.
