In theory, he said, the move to a higher frame rate should “lead to more natural, more effortless processing by the viewer’s visual system.”

But, he adds, scientists who study the visual system know that perception doesn’t always equal reality.

“Maybe some species are in more interesting visual environments and they need a more sophisticated visual system to filter things out,” he says.
