Abdullah stole another look at his fingers, and was annoyed to see them once more smudged with residue from the counterfeit book. 

Their handmade business was called Smudges and in the later years Casey recruited helpers to create hundreds of ornaments to sell at craft fairs.

Act II doesn’t so much diminish Platt’s performance as smudge it a little, like a beautiful charcoal drawing that’s been handled too much.
