Lydian stone, or black jasper, a variety of siliceous or flinty slate, of a grayish or bluish black color.

The whole plumage, except the quills, is of a bluish black, covered with small grayish spots, sometimes four, sometimes six on each feather.

Dark spots of a deep bluish black will often be seen on the photosphere of the sun.
