He thereafter began work as a catechist, instructing other Native Americans in the Catholic faith, helping care for a chapel and assisting with church services.

Now young people “are getting a better version of the faith from our catechists and the teachers,” he said.

“If this lay leadership and these catechists are supposed to leave a mark on the circuses at large, God will provide.”
