He adds that, unlike Humayun, most scientists believe that chondritic meteorites are a "match" for concentrations of metals in the Earth's mantle and crust.

Although widely acknowledged to be ubiquitous in chondritic meteorites, their formation has been a mystery since 1877. 

Another study using a different spectrometer on Messenger also indicated chondritic meteorites as a likely building material for Mercury.
