Etymology: so called from the radiating nerve fibers
1. : a nerve plexus situated in the abdomen behind the stomach and in front of the aorta and the crura of the diaphragm, surrounding the coeliac axis and the root of the superior mesenteric artery, containing several ganglia of which the most important are the coeliac ganglia, and distributing nerve fibers to all the abdominal viscera — called also coeliac plexus
