: a mineral (Fe,Mn)WO4 that consists of an iron manganese tungstate of a usually brownish or grayish black color and submetallic luster, is isomorphous with and intermediate between huebnerite and ferberite, occurs in monoclinic crystals commonly twinned so as to imitate orthorhombic tabular forms and in granular or columnar masses, shows a highly perfect cleavage, and is used as a source of tungsten and tungsten compounds (hardness 5-5.5, specific gravity 7.1-7.5) — called also wolfram |
