Etymology: Hindi kavā̃c, kãvā̃c, probably from Sanskrit kapikacchu, from kapi monkey (of Hamitic origin; akin to Egyptian gif, an eastern African ape) + kacchu itch, of Dravidian origin; akin to Kanarese kajji itch
