: the movement of suspended particles through a fluid under the action of an electromotive force applied to electrodes in contact with the suspension, important applications being in the separation of colloids (as proteins, clay, humus) and the deposition on one of the electrodes of coatings (as of oxides on cathodes for electron tubes and of rubber and synthetic polymers) — called also cataphoresis
