decrypt, v.|dɪˈkrɪpt| [f. de- II. 1 + crypt as in cryptogram, cryptograph; cf. It. decriptare.] a. trans. To solve (a cryptogram) without knowledge of the key. b. To convert (a cryptogram) into plaintext by proper application of the key. So deˈcrypted ppl. a., deˈcrypting vbl. n., deˈcryption, the deciphering of a cryptogram.
