1. Ichth. Situated under or near the pectoral fins; (of a fish) having the ventral fins so situated.
1836Partington's Brit. Cycl. Nat. Hist. II. 556/2 Gadoidæ... A family of soft-finned fishes with sub-brachial fins. 1840Cuvier's Anim. Kingd. 324 Echeneis. This genus, like Pleuronectes, might form a distinct family of Sub-brachial Malacopterygii.
