† acquaintant Obs.|əˈkweɪntənt| [a. Fr. acointant, later accointant, pr. pple. of accointer; see acquaint v.] = acquaintance 3; by which it has now been disadvantageously superseded; there has perhaps been some confusion between the pl. acquaintants, -ans, and the collective acquaintance.
