‖ suppedaneum|sʌpɪˈdeɪnɪəm| [late L. suppedāneum, neut. sing. used subst. of suppedāneus, f. sup- = sub- 1 a + ped-, pēs foot.] A support for the feet of a crucified person, projecting from the vertical shaft of the cross.
