† swaip, n. Obs. Also 4 suaip, 5 sweype. [Corresp. in form to ON. sveipa (= OE. swápan to sweep, q.v.) and sveipr, but in sense to ON. svipa to whip, svipa whip. Cf. swape, swepe.] A whip, scourge; also, a stroke, blow.
