Ediacara (now usually Ediacaria) is also the name of a genus of scyphozoans found within the same fossil assemblage (R. C. Spriggs 1949, in Trans. Royal Soc. S. Australia 73 86).]
attrib. Designating or relating to an association of soft-bodied marine organisms of the late Precambrian, known from fossil remains in a sedimentary formation from the Ediacara Hills, South Australia, and also found in other locations worldwide. Esp. in Ediacara fauna.
Although some Ediacaran fossils have been identified with medusoids, soft corals, annelids, and other extant groups, many appear to be unrelated to any known organisms.
