‖ tamboura|ˈtæmbərə, tæmˈbʊərə| Also 6 tambora, 7 tamera, 9 tumboora, tamboora, tambur(a), tanpoora, etc. [app. ad. Pers. ṭanbūr, Arab. ṭunbūr, in same sense.] a. A long-necked lute of the Near East and Balkans, with a pear-shaped body and a fretted neck. Cf. pandora2, tamburitza.
