tectosilicate Min.|ˈtɛktəʊˌsɪlɪkət| Also tekto-. [ad. G. tektosilikat (H. Strunz 1938, in Zeitschr. f. ges. Naturwiss. IV. 189), f. Gr. τεκτο-νεῖα workshops (or τεκτο-νία carpentry), taken as = framework + G. silikat silicate.] Any of the group of silicates in which the four oxygen atoms of each SiO4 tetrahedron are shared with four neighbouring tetrahedra in a three-dimensional framework, with a ratio of silicon to oxygen of 1:2.
