ephedrine Med.|ˈɛfədrɪn| Also -in. [S. Nagai 1887, in Pharmazeut. Zeit. XXXII. 700, f. Ephedra (see prec.) + -ine5.] An alkaloid, C10H15NO, that occurs in certain species of Ephedra in four optically active forms and is made synthetically; 2-methylamino-1-phenylpropanol; spec. one of the lævorotatory isomers, used in the form of its salts as a sympathomimetic drug.
