ethambutol, n. Pharm.|ɛˈθæmbjʊtɒl, -əʊl| [f. ethyl n. + amino- + butanol n.] A synthetic bacteriostatic compound used (usu. as the hydrochloride) in the treatment of tuberculosis; (S,S)-N,N′-ethylenebis(2-aminobutan-1-ol), C10H24N2O2 . Often used spec. of the laevoratory isomer.
