tetarteron Numism.|tɪˈtɑːtərən| [a. Gr. τεταρτηρόν, lit. ‘measure of capacity’, f. τέταρτος fourth.] A Byzantine gold coin of the 10th–11th cent., a copper coin replacing the old follis from the late 11th cent. (see quot. 1969).
