thalidomide|θəˈlɪdəmaɪd| Also Thalidomide. [f. phthalimidoglutarimide, f. phthalimide + -o + glutaric adj. s.v. glut- + imide.] a. A non-barbiturate sedative and hypnotic, C13H10N2O4, which was found to be teratogenic when taken early in pregnancy, sometimes causing malformation or absence of limbs in the fœtus.
