† excalˈceation Obs. [as if ad. L. *excalceātiōn-em, n. of action f. excalceāre: see prec.] The action of taking or putting off the shoe, or shoes; spec. among the Hebrews, the taking off of a shoe by a widow, from her husband's next of kin, upon his refusal to marry her.
