time base Electronics. [f. time n. + base n.1] a. A line on a cathode-ray tube display representing the time axis, usu. horizontally. b. A signal for uniformly and repeatedly deflecting the electron beam so as to produce such a line, usu. consisting of a saw-tooth waveform. c. Also time-base generator. A circuit for generating such a signal; a sweep generator.
